2008 and we're on the brink of another depression in America. However, there are some lessons to learn since the news broke in the late 1920's through 30's. My grandmother (God rest her soul) was an insightful woman who taught us some lessons about business since she lived through "The Great Depression".
On the brink of her 20's this depression hit and like most budding 20 year olds the spirit of entrepreneurship was on her mind. Grandma kept that spirit alive even in the midst of great turmoil and through that she persevered.
She opened a business in the house and rented out the extra bedrooms which made her have an income during the worse of times. It was her thinking that in order to make money a person should look at "practical" options. Provide something that people need and you will NEVER go broke. In other words, "Find A Need And Fill It".
In the end, grandma owned a business for over 40 years and taught us another golden rule. "For any business that you own see if you can do it from home. That way you won't have to pay two rents. Or, own the building that your business is in."
The lesson I am now learning is that we all have a chance in this present economy to go into business for ourselves if we just have the desire, tools and most of all the will to make it happen.
